Everything you need to know about checking Reddit username availability, our suggestion engine, and how the tool works.
Yes — completely free. No sign-up, no subscription, no usage limits. You can check as many usernames as you like, as many times as you want. The tool is supported by non-intrusive advertising, which keeps it free for everyone.
Our tool checks Reddit's public username availability API to determine if a handle is registered. We also cross-reference our own blocklist of reserved usernames and Reddit's format rules. Checks that fail format validation (too short, too long, invalid characters) are flagged instantly without even querying the API — making the tool faster and more accurate.
Yes! Switch to the Bulk Check tab and enter up to 10 usernames, one per line. Hit "Check All" and get simultaneous results for every username. Each result shows the username, its status badge, character count, and a copy button.
No. UsernameCheck.site is an independent, third-party tool. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Reddit Inc. in any way. We use Reddit's publicly available API to check username availability.
Yes — the tool is fully responsive and works on all modern browsers on desktop, tablet, and mobile. There's no app to install; just open usernamecheck.site in your browser and you're ready to go.
Reddit does not allow username changes after your account is 30 days old. This is a platform policy decision — Reddit uses usernames as persistent identifiers for comments, posts, and karma history. Once your account is established, your username becomes part of your permanent Reddit record. This makes choosing the right username from the start absolutely critical — which is exactly why tools like ours exist.
No — Reddit treats all usernames as case-insensitive. "CosmicPanda", "cosmicpanda", and "COSMICPANDA" all refer to the same account. So if "CosmicPanda" is taken, "cosmicpanda" is also unavailable, even if our tool shows it differently. Our tool normalizes all checks to lowercase for accuracy.
Yes, Reddit allows numbers in usernames. However, our Strength Score algorithm penalizes heavy number usage because numbers make usernames harder to remember and less brandable. A username like "gamer_2024" scores lower than "gamer_forge" for this reason. Numbers at the end are the least brandable placement.
Our suggestion engine analyzes your input keyword and applies over 20 naming patterns to generate 10 clean, brandable alternatives:
Every suggestion is then checked for availability and scored for strength. You can hit "Regenerate" to get a fresh set.
We deliberately exclude random number-based suggestions (like "user1234" or "panda8823") because they are the worst kind of username. They're hard to remember, look spammy, score poorly on our Strength algorithm, and signal to other Redditors that you couldn't think of anything better. Every suggestion from our engine looks like a real, thoughtful handle.
Absolutely. While our tool checks availability specifically against Reddit's API, the suggestions and strength score are valid for any platform — Twitter/X, Instagram, Discord, Twitch, and more. Just note that availability on other platforms needs to be checked separately, as each platform has its own user database.
Our strength score rates each username from 1–100 based on multiple weighted factors:
A score of 71–100 is "Strong" (green), 41–70 is "Good" (amber), and 1–40 is "Weak" (red).
No — the strength score and availability check are independent metrics. A username can score 95/100 on strength but still be taken by another user. Conversely, an available username might score 30/100 if it's very short or number-heavy. We show both metrics separately so you can make an informed decision.
No. The username checks are processed client-side in your browser. We do not log, store, or process the specific usernames you search. Our servers only see anonymous traffic requests — not the content of your searches. See our Privacy Policy for complete details.
We use only essential, anonymous analytics cookies to understand aggregate traffic patterns (how many visitors, which pages are popular). We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or cross-site trackers. See our Privacy Policy for full cookie details.
